Obituary for Miranda "Nell" Biggs (McKenzie)
Artist Miranda Nell (McKenzie) Biggs died peacefully in Fairfield, California on October 3, 2017 at the age of 93.
Nell is survived by her four children; Nancy Jill Thames of Temple, Texas; John (Hank) Biggs, Jr. of Sparta, New Jersey; Thomas McKenzie Biggs of Folsom, California and Jeffery Taylor Biggs of Vacaville, California. She left 16 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Edmon (Ed) Biggs of Vacaville, California; sister Louise Dowdle of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; brothers George McKenzie and Thomas McKenzie of Las Vegas, Nevada. Nell was born on September 30, 1924 in Wesson, Mississippi to Thomas Ernest McKenzie and Louise Barber McKenzie. She graduated from Pomona High School in 1941 and attended Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. She married Ed in 1945. Soon the couple welcomed four children into their home and Nell set about teaching them independence. Her children remember her as a loving Christian mother who encouraged them at every step of their lives.
Nell was accomplished at bridge and often played with friends. She traveled extensively visiting 22 countries. She was a generous, loving individual, passionate about living her faith. An active and dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church, she often volunteered at the Senior Center serving the homeless.
